Forum: GratefulDead Subject: "Collective Consciousness" experiment...

OK all, this idea popped into my head a week or so ago and has not gone away, so... As we all know, or should know, the Grateful Dead were very much into the "group mind", probably the most important member of the band if you get right down to it. Many of us probaby participated in this at various shows unbeknownst to each other at one time or another...

What i would like to run by you, my fellow Forumites and kindred spirits is that we give it another try, digitally this time. We agree on a show (I've asked dr flashback to help on that) a day and time, get as many as possible on the same wavelength at the same time, and see if anything happens! I know it's a little problematic, with us scattered over many timezones and continents, but. Winter Solstice would be cool, but I have to work on thursdays. New Years, fun, but the timezone problem, we do want to listen at the same time as much as we can. Maybe the saturday (12/23) before Christmas? I know many of you have brains that still work very well, figure a start time that would work best for all, put on the earphones, crank the speakers, all of the above and see if we can move a molehill?

Anyone interested?

cush212: Wow, that's a really creative idea - the late night east coast time slot would be great for me. Now you need to figure out what we are supposed to focus on. Maybe Jerry will drop by the way Pigpen dropped in on them at the Amsterdam show (1981-10-16) to wish Weir a happy "Lovelight" Birthday. --- AshesRising

I think that's going to be the tough part, picking an era all these lovable fussbudgets can listen to at the same time... Maybe one of our younger posters was born on 12/30 re the birthday thread. I did like the idea about the show date being the same date, but it doesn't have to. The 7pm west 10pm east sounds good, could go a little earlier so our european friends could get in on it. Nice thought though, the Jerry/Pig thing. Wouldn't something that that be sweet! Just let me know when to start, we don't change clocks in AZ so I never know what time it anywhere else!

Ain't no signs
no dividing line
and very few rules to guide...

I'm in. Gimme a show and a time and we'll go from there. I assume if we all are listening at the same time same day, the show would correspond to that day as well. A sort of this day in history meets today.

Yeah, same date show too! Good idea, 12/23 could be hard to come by but I've got a feeling there may be a 12/30 or two out there...

Hey that's a neat idea! I can't wait to the day of the show. I'm gonna sit outside and drink beer in the cold, just to get that pre-winter-show runny nose! Sweet...

I'll be home the weekend before Christmas, so that would work for me.

For time of day, I suggest 10pm est and 7 pm pst. That way, no one has to start too early or late. I hope it's a high-energy trip-fest, like 68 or 69.

Man you people get up to some ideas while I'm asleep. Sounds like a really fun community thing to do - just a shame that 10pm on the East Coast is 3am here - so I might not be doing too much cranking up. I'll be there in spirit anyway - maybe I'll give the chosen concert a listen ahead of time just to warm up the vibes for the rest of you.

Must be something in this collective consciousness thing - why else was I dreaming about you guys last night?

Hey, it's 8:00 here in Mississippi an I'm at work!

Just checked in - love the idea cushy.

Is it 12/30 or 12/23? My daughter's birthday is 12/30 she was born at 9:11pm so maybe a 9/11 show if no 12/30s come up.

Wait a minute. Aren't there lots of 12/30s out there? Sure there are.

When the Dead would do this we would all be looking at a picture or thinking of someone and what they were doing. Are we going to do something like that?

I guess we could just send "good vibes" to each other and see if we feel it. Ok nevermind on that.

I could put a piece of beef liver on my kitchen table and you could all try to levitate it.

Better than levitating Garcia.
